Finally, A True Companion Watch for iOS

Ever since the iPod nano's watch strap craze, I was hoping that Apple would run with the idea and actually push out a companion watch for iOS.  While that may very well still be in the works, this bad boy appeared on The Verge as a Kickstarter project.  As soon as I got home from work, I backed the project for $125.

The crazy bit is that when I looked at the project just after the Verge's post, it had just met its goal of $100k (at about $108k at that time). Within the next 8 hours it hit $1MM.  As of this post its over $3MM. That is insane, but it just goes to show that I'm not the only one clamoring for a watch that not only looks amazing, but offers up additional functionality and can provide as a quick link to our phone's information.

The team behind the Pebble have also been adding features since they're completely over-funded.  The same day I pledged, they announced they were going to fully waterproof the Pebble.  Fantastic, because that was instantly one of my first concerns, as I occasionally forget to take my watch off before I hit the shower.

While I could go over all the features, your best bet is to just move forward read about the Pebble on the official Kickstarter page.  You have until May 18 to pledge and get one of your own.

Chris Pirillo’s Dad Uses Mac OS X for the First Time

I found this super intriguing.  Chris Pirillo had his father test out Windows 8 for the first time, so OS X was a natural follow up.  While his dad does seem slightly more computer savvy than most people in his age bracket, he unsurprisingly gets along quite well in Mac's OS.

Some of the interesting take-aways are his dad's:

  • association that Google = the Internet
  • recognition of the connection and familiarity with iOS
  • admission that he's "afraid of the cloud"
  • comment that he doesn't like iTunes, but he likes the App Store

I'm pleased to announce that you're viewing my site on the new Squarespace 6 platform.  Yes, it looks great, but the behind the scenes of what you see is amazing.  I'm quite fortunate to work for such an amazing and progressive company, and I can't wait to show you more. Poke around, come back and visit, leave me some feedback.  I may even have some invites to pass out.

As a note, this site is also going to double as my testing site. So you may see changes and tweaks, but that's all part of the fun, right?

AMORPHIS - You I Need [HQ Official Video]

Over the last few years Amorphis has quickly become one of my favorite bands. They have the perfect metal sound- agressive, yet still melodic; heavy but emotional.  Hailing from Helsinki, Finland they absolutely instill their music with folklore. Have a listen, then buy all their albums. They're all amazing.

My freelance design business will be taking a back seat as I've accepted a position with Squarespace in New York City.  I'll be moving out mid-july with my wife and anything else I can fit in my MINI Cooper S.  Lucky for you, this site will be completely revivied and re-designed.  I plan on adding more posts about tech, gadgets, web design and video games.

From the Apple Capital to the Big Apple, I'll be #3 at Squarespace.

Rdio.com - Best Lala Alternative Yet

Rdio.com's web UI. Great social features, well designed.

I recieved an invite to Rdio.com today.  So far its the best alternative to my beloved Lala.com yet. While Rdio.com is still invite only at this point, it functions quite well.  I also haven't found any issues with their Library. So far anything I've searched for came up.  I've even discovered a few new cool bands.  But one of the best features yet allows users to sync albums to their iPhone app for offline listening. Just as if you had the album on your iPhone.

So far the only caveat I've come across is that unlike Lala, its not free.  Listening online only will set you back $5 a month, while the full meal deal with the offline iPhone listening will set you back $10. However, also unlike Lala, you're not limited to a single listen through a song (however that limitation worked well for me).

So enough chatting about the service, you want to check it out for yourself.  Good thing I'm giving away 3 invites.  Simply leave a comment to this post stating your favorite album (current or all-time), and I'll pick 3 of the best answers (as objective as I can) and send out the invites.
